Boulanger, il nuovo dirigente della Citroen, da poco acquistata dalla Michelin mise in moto i progettatori con le sue disposizioni: "una vettura, di concezione particolarmente economica, dovrà essere in grado di trasportare "quattro passeggeri ed un sacco di patate a 60 chilometri all'ora con un consumo di tre litri per cento chilometri. Le sospensioni dovranno permettere l’attraversamento di un campo arato con un paniere di uova senza romperle e la vettura deve essere concepita in modo semplice per permettere ai contadini di utilizzarla. Fra il 1956 e il 1965 la casa torinese infatti produceva la 600 Multipla, una derivata della 600 berlina antagonista delle moderne monovolume, nella quale  potevano prendere posto 6 passeggeri disposti comodamente su tre file.&lt;br /&gt;Ebbe un notevole successo come taxi e piccolo pulmino oltre a dare l'idea di un'auto progettata per il tempo libero.
